Yoka Miso is such a superlative product that it's the only miso I work with as a serial home cook. It's the best expression of chickpeas/garbanzo beans I've come across: beautifully balanced in its flavor, versatile in application, and soy-free (as a unique added bonus)! Anna is such a gem of a human, and her miso production is an extension of her family ties and a reflection of the best of Seattle's foodscapes, agriculture, and enterprising community. I LOVE Yoka Miso! In my travels of the increasingly-abundant miso options available in the States, I feel there is no other product out there like YOKA MISO! I live in New York and have had the GREAT pleasure of tasting a wide variety of delectable miso pastes, but after all this time I still prefer Yoka for its complex and unique flavor. I vastly prefer its rich, rustic texture--compared to most other miso pastes which are processed until, dare I say, unnaturally smooth. And the flavor! Savory and sweet, with a slight nutty aftertaste that can only be captured when using high-quality soybeans, both the traditional and garbanzo miso provide an entire universe of opportunity for culinary advancements! You might say seven months isn't a long enough ferment, but keep those heretical thoughts to yourself as it would merely showcase an unfortunate case of brains as smooth as those OTHER miso pastes. In conclusion, THANK YOU ANNA and SHOICHI and all the SUGIYAMA's for bringing such an excellent product into the world! My culinary exploits will reach never-before-seen heights because of all of your efforts and dedication! Please keep up the good work!

This locally family made miso is undeniably the best miso I have ever tasted in my life. You can put it in anything for an extra hit of umami! It’s versatile. It’s made an appearance on my Thanksgiving table and in a favorite salad dressing. Anna and her family pack their love into every product. It is the highest quality and often sold out when I am at the farmer’s market. I could not believe when a soy free miso version was added with the same incredible taste ❤️

Anna's Miso is super delicious and she is a wonderful person. I always start my trip to the Farmer's Market on Saturday AM by visiting Anna and having a cup of her soup, she always makes me laugh and remembers what we spoke about the week before, it is a little sad on the weeks she isn't there. As someone who doesn't cook a lot of Japanese cuisine myself, she is a great resource to pick her brain on where to incorporate it into what you're cooking, and which one goes better with what. My daughter also loves bringing her miso soup to school. You should definitely try.

I absolutely adore how versatile the miso products are! I use the flavors interchangeably in everything, from homemade mayo, to boxed Mac and Cheese! Miso is the perfect addition to almost any sauce or marinade, and I love knowing it's a local brand.

As a standalone product, Yoka Miso is amazing--fantastic texture, flavor, and depth you can't find from other miso brands. What makes Yoka Miso stand out is Anna's commitment to not only a great product, but also honoring her story and contributing her values to the Seattle food scene (and beyond!). She has helped foster a more collaborative, inclusive restaurant culture, inviting people to learn about ingredients they may have never heard of with great kindness. For these reasons, I only use Yoka Miso!
